Theatre in the Forest - A Midsummer Night's Dream

Last night we made our third annual trip into the Rendlesham Forest for the Theatre. Armed with blankets and winter clothes we set off for the 7.30pm performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.  We were not disappointed, this event put on by 'The Red Rose Chain' gets better every year. Last year we enjoyed A Winter's Tale and the year before it was Romeo and Juliette.

Here are a few pictures, please forgive the poor photography, I blame the distance from the stage, the fading light then darkness, and the movement!

We had a fantastic evening, despite being the coldest event we have been to, at least it didn't rain.. The last two years we were in summer gear at enjoyed ice creams. This year we needed hot chocolate in the interval. This is the 11th year of the event.

The costumes were clever, all mortals in black and white, very regimented with a melodramatic vaudeville theme.  The fairies were magical, natural, delicate and very, very PINK! (blogger doesn't have the right pink font for this :( !  ). The fairy costumes were covered in pink fairy lights which you can't really tell from the photos.

I love the way the programme gives you an 'in a nutshell' guide to the play too this is so comical and informative at the same time.

Tonight will be the last show, we debated whether to go yesterday or today, and as I feel rough with a cold and sore throat (Which was already coming on yesterday before we went to be honest) I'm glad we went for yesterday!

As Catherine is off to Uni to study Drama and Theatre Arts, I got her a cami-top with the show logo on it, she can wear this when rehearsing herself!

I can't wait to see what this talented group get up to next year. Off to check them out on facebook.

Pearly Whites!!

It's time for challenge 43 over on Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps Blog. Using white and pearls.  I wanted to make a card for my Godmother's 80th birthday next weekend, and this is the prefect combination.

I used the Cinderella KK stamp (from Elaine at Quixotic Paperie), lots of flat backed, self-adhesive pearls and some liquid pearls.   White cardstock, and an 8x8" card blank from Craftwork Cards.  The patterned paper is just one sheet of double-sided paper called 'Bellini' from Basic Grey's Cappella line.

The Cricut Storybook cartridge was used to cut the large circle and the large scalloped circle. The letters and numbers were cut with Don Juan. I made the smaller circles with my Stampin' Up punches.  I used scraps of ribbon from my stash. The dress was glitzed up with stickles, my favourite little bottle of 'crystal' stickles.

Cricut Carts, Basic Grey, liquid pearls and stickles all from Jill at Cardinal Colours.

Here is a peek inside. I hope she likes it, we are off to her 'open house' weekend next Sunday to celebrate.

Framlingham

52 Walks with my Camera 2010 - Week 34

We went for a walk round Framlingham town, but I didn't take many photos. Plan to revisit and explore the castle. This is such a beautiful spot and we enjoyed lunch at the Lemon Tree. We did some shopping in a lovely shop called Outside In.

Butterfly Frame

I had this lovely frame from my friends Wendy and Liz for my birthday, and I decided to alter it a little to go with the photo I selected for it.

The picture is of my daughter, Catherine dressed for a dancing show back in 2001 when she was 9 years old.
She was part of a show at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford with the 'Sylvera School of Dancing'. The show was all about children's books and was called 'Dance Fiction' and Catherine is dressed here for a ballet dance to 'Secret Garden'

Just found these images of layouts I made some time ago from the show photos:

This one is of all the girls in the dance together, using an official photo:

This one is Catherine ...

... and this is my other daughter Emily in the same dance.

They also tap danced to 'Toy Story' - Another official group photo

If you're not asleep because I bored you (I got a little carried away)!- hope you enjoyed that little trip down my scrapping memory lane!

Snow White

Snow White in disguise! This card was made in response to the Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge for week 41. To use bling scallops and buttons. I have used Basic Grey papers from the 'Green at Heart' collection.  The scalloped edges were created with my Stampin' Up border punch. I found these small doilies when I was shopping in Southwold yesterday. The image is from Kraftin' Kimmie's Fairytale collection (I buy mine from Elaine at Quixoticpaperie), and she is coloured with my Promarkers. The Ash branches were punched using my friend Anita's punch (thanks Hun x). There is a fair bit of Ranger Stickles Crystal glitter. The flat backed crystals and buttons are from my stash. Why not pop over to The Kraftin' Kimmie site and have a go.

Southwold Quay

52 Walks with my Camera 2010 - Week 33

Today we were in Southwold and took a walk along the Quay, as you can see from the photos the weather was poor. The sun came out as we drove home this evening!

Emily with her boyfriend Alex. She is wearing her Dad's Jumper!

Lavender Cup Cakes

While I still have some lavender in the garden I thought I would try this recipe I noted down a few months ago, while sitting in the dentist's waiting room!

... and very nice they were too.

Tewin

52 Walks with My Camera 2010 - Week 32

Last week we travelled to Tewin, Hertfordshire to take my parents to the village where my grandmother (my father's mother) was born and grew up. Many generations of Ephgrave before her also lived there. We still have family living in the same cottage today.

The first Saxon invaders called themselves "The Sons of Tew". 'Tew' being the Saxon for God of war.

Cowper Cottages

Dad at the gate to the cottage where his mother was born and brought up. He also lived there for a while during the war. This day out was a real 'trip down memory lane' for Dad.

This is where the village water pump used to be.

This house is where he attended school.

The pub where we sheltered from the rain and enjoyed lunch.

Before walking round the village we spent some time in the church grave yard. Unfortunately we were unable to go in the church but we will visit again soon and arrange to do this before we go.  However we did find quite a few graves with family names. I photographed these graves, so I can see if and where these people fit into our family tree. I plan to do another blog entry on behalf of the new found family members I have made through the genealogy sites and of course my known family members.

Here are pictures of St. Peter's Church and graveyard:

These next pictures are of the tomb of Lady Anne Grimston. A legend has grown around this lady that she was a Sadducean and therefore did not believe in the Resurrection of the Dead. She was reputed to have said, "If, indeed, there is life hereafter, trees will render asunder my tomb." For over 200 years trees have forced their limbs through the tomb to raise their branches in rejoicing. This is taken from 'A Visitors Guide to Tewin'.
I have taken more photos of this and will devote a blog entry to these pictures and more of the story.

Looking forward to returning to Tewin and getting to know more, in the mean time I can be searching for some of the names we found in the graveyard to see if they are part of my family tree. Some of them are indeed already there.
