Basic Grey Colour Combo 5

For this challenge I decided to use Oh Baby Boy Papers, as they went well with my photograph of Oliver and they were perfect for the colour scheme.  I did some machine stitching around the layers of paper in white thread. I made a collection of animals using my Cricut and the Paisley Cartridge. I cut the numerous parts of each animal, inked them and pieces them together. Most of them has some detail picked out in glitter. They are all cut from Basic Grey papers and Bazzill card stock. All the animals were attached using 3D foam pads.
The title was made with three different methods, 'First was cut with The Designers Calender Cartridge on the Cricut. 'Birthday' is Basic Grey Oh Baby Boy letter stickers and the words 'Happy' and 'Oliver' ere created with some old Provocraft letter stickers.

Friston and Saxmundham

52 Walks with my Camera 2010 - week 17
Today we headed off to Saxmundham and stopped off at Friston on the way. I photographed this little caravan which happens to be for sale outside the Old Chequers public house.

We stopped here for lunch before driving onto Saxmundhum.
Here is the sign that welcomes you to the small market town of Saxmundham.

The High Street

The war memorial.....

.... and the trees on the thoroughfare through to the supermarket.

Several other interesting buildings.

The next two photos are for Anita and Chris, this lovely little shop is full of beads and other crafty bits.
It was closed for lunch when I got there so I took a (not very good) photo though the window for you both!

The dog refused to pose!

18th Birthday Celebrations

Scrapaholix kit for May 2010

The Scrapaholix kit for May contains these pretty Abbey Road papers from My Mind's Eye. The technique is using Bloom & Grows laser cut chip flower and alphabet supplied with the kit. I painted my chipboard with Adirondack paint daubers. I used a Page Map for the double layout but feel both pages look fine by themselves. I added a lot of buttons in coordinating colours which I stitched on with embroidery threads.

The left hand side

both together:

Here is the kit.

The photos were taken the night before the triplets 18th birthday when my brother, sister and brother in law took them all out for a meal in a Limo. For more information see the blog entry - Celebrating Now and Then.

Thanks for looking.

In The Garden

This week's Passion for Pro markers blog challenge is 'In the Garden'. I had already stamped this image by Penny Black using one of Linda's stamps. It was perfect as it reflects my garden right now. The image was coloured with pro markers and layered with 3D foam pads. The papers are from my dwindling, never to be replenished stash of Scenic Route papers.

Here is the inspiration for my choice of colour and image for this card:

Family Tree

Another layout using April's Scrapaholix kit. The papers are from Kaiser with Core'dinations Card stock. The technique is using Artisan Elements from Pink Paislee. There are two frames in a kit so had to buy two kits! They are made from vinyl and are soft and flexible. I coloured the frames with chalk inks and rubbed gold metallic cream into the embossed design.

The tree was cut from brown cardstock using the Heritage Cartridge for the Cricut. I also used the same cartridge for the title. This page will be the title page for my Holder Humm family tree scrapbook. The bottom photo is my mother, Mary Susan Holder. The middle couple are her parents Winifred May Humm and Ernest Charles Holder. Top left are Win's parents Henry William Humm and Susan Dunn. Top Right are Ernest's parents Frederick Henry Holder and Florence Williams (known as Emma Jane). I wrote the names and dates in tiny letters along the branches.

RAF Bentwaters

52 Walks with my camera in 2010 - Week 16

This week I did my 'walk' by cycling to and around RAF Bentwaters, Suffolk. The photos are not exactly pretty, but interesting, none the less.

RAF Bentwaters is a former Royal Air Force station near Woodbridge. The name was taken from two cottages (‘Bentwaters Cottages’) that had stood on the site of the main runway during its construction in 1943.

It was used by the RAF during World War II, and by the United States Air Force during the Cold War, being the primary home for the 81st Fighter Wing under various designations from 1951 to 1993. For many years the 81st Fighter Wing also operated RAF Woodbridge, with Bentwaters and Woodbridge being known as the "Twin Bases". Bentwaters is also known as the location for the alleged December 1980 UFO incident in Rendlesham Forest.

The site, now known as Bentwaters Parks, is used for a variety of purposes; there is a cold war museum on the site, there are offices and warehouses to rent and the site is also used for television and film making. I believe it is used for 'Top Gear'

Grandad Banks

Here is another LO I made at Debden last weekend. It shows my Grandfather Charles Edward Maddison Banks 1987 - 1961. He was a member of the Royal British Legion. The papers are Basic Grey Scarlet's Letter. The swirls are cut on the Cricut with the Storybook Cartridge. I made the poppy some years ago with wired ribbon.

Chicago

Catherine was involved in another 'A' Level photo shoot for her friend Tabitha. The theme was Chicago. She has a set of photos of herself as a result of this. I created these two LO's with three of them. I did the first one with a red doily from Basic Grey and as this was so precious I gutted a circle from the centre of it. The papers are from Ambrosia and Scarlet's letter collections. The title was cut on the Cricut. I added gems and brads to each scallop, and glitter glue dots to the letters.

Then I decided to use the rest of the doily to make a second LO. I used the same paper ranges as before. The Fleur-de-lys were cut on the Cricut (all 28 of them) then I glued on the gems.

Discovering Family History

I was sent some new family tree information and photos from Audrey (my father's cousin), so I have been adding to my tree on Genes Reunited. It has helped me sort out some of the more recent history. Do you remember the LO I created of Bertha and Bert last month? This is a much clearer photo of the same bride, Bertha and her bridesmaids, Nancy and Audrey in 1938.

Here is my grandmother, Margaret Ellen (not that you can see her face under that hat) with Audrey in 1931.

This photo shows Bertha with Audrey 1937

Blogger Award

Thanks to Liz for awarding me with this Creative Blogger Award. What a lovely idea.

I now have to list 7 crafty things I have done. So here goes:

1. Scrapbooking has got to be my top choice of crafty things I do.

2. Card making comes a close second. I never buy greetings cards for anyone any more - everyone has to suffer my hand made creations!

3. Knitting has taken on a bit of a revival for me at present. I did lots of knitting from about 16 years of age well into the 1980's, since when it has been a bit less frequent. My latest knitting creations being my cupcakes.

4. Dressmaking has always been a big interest for me and I have had my money's worth out of the sewing machine I got on hire purchase from Alders in Bromley with my first wages all those years ago!

5. I started cross stitch when my babies were born and this became a bit of an addiction for some years, especially when they were small. Not much room on the walls for anymore cross stitch pictures now.

6. I have made small items and blankets in crochet, but I prefer knitting. I refreshed the my knowledge of crochet recently when my daughter wanted to learn. I remembered enough to help her with all the stitches. We created some flowers, and she went on to make other items.

7. I have been creating my family tree with the help of Genes Reunited I have been interested in tracing my family's history for some time and collecting photos and information. Just over a year ago I finally got around to making sense of it all and recording it. I combine this with my scrapbooking, by making layouts of the lovely old photos and memories.

I would like to pass this award onto two very creative, crafty people - Anita and Karen.
